What are QR Codes?

Did you know the QR codes (quick response codes), originated in Japan? They used them in car manufacturing plants to scan and keep track of auto parts. As smartphone adoption accelerates, the use of QR codes has similarly increased. In fact, according to recent data from Mobio Identity Systems, QR code scanning increased by a whopping 1,200 percent from July to December of last year.

“The QR barcode has become the gateway to information, data exchange and mobile commerce with the smartphone acting as the primary device for every consumer interaction. Browsing and buying merchandise through QR barcodes is happening like never before, and social media has further accelerated this phenomenon,” the report noted. The report also stated that more than half (64 percent) of QR scans were conducted by women.
